Nash Schnibbles Quilt

I learned about Nash, a basketball player for the Phoenix Suns, while watching the NBA playoffs this year. The Suns played the Portland Trailblazers last month and it was pretty fun to watch. I've never been a basketball fan or anything, but it was fun to see the 6 intense games :) Nash is an amazing ball player! I thought it was cute Carrie has named one of her quilt patterns after him.

Finding out the May Schnibbles was the quilter's choice made me happy. I had Nash kitted up for over a year now, and was glad to finally break into it. The fabric is called Cotton Blossoms, by Camille and Bonnie. It's very cute, I like the aqua and orange colors in this fabric.

I stipple quilted it with a tan thread, and used the orange stripe fabric for the binding.

This past week I read a book called The Help by Kathryn Stockett. It was so good you guys, I could not put it down. If you are looking for an intriguing, touching book this is a good one. Have any of you read it?

The weather is finally making a nice turn to warmth, sunshine and blue skies. I’ve been outside a lot this past week, and it has really given me an energy boost. I am so grateful for it! I had a baby shower for my friend on Saturday morning, it was a lot of fun! She is having a boy next month. I am really excited for them.

I wanted to thank those of you that left comments about my mom on my last post, she is an amazing person. The dialysis treatments she is now getting are helping her out quite a bit, and we are all counting our blessings.

I’ve been stitching away for an exchange coming up next month! It is close to being done now. I can’t wait to share it with you. It has been pretty time consuming. You know me, go big or go home!

On the quilting front:

First off, I am totally excited for my LQS (local quilt shop) Hollyhill Quilt Shoppe. They were featured in the Quilt Sampler Magazine as a TOP 10 shop. That shop is totally amazing. Everytime I go in there I get inspired and can’t wait to get home and make more quilts. So, if you are ever in Portland, be sure to get out to their shop, you won’t regret it.

I’ve been using up my scrap bin, I made this baby quilt top from my scraps. Most of them are Amy Butler fabrics. How cute huh? I like these coin quilts, really easy to make and a nice pattern. I am currently quilting my May Schnibbles, so far so good.I’ve busted more stash… oh yes I have. I pulled out a lot of my blues/reds/creams to make a scrappy Americana quilt. I cut a whole bunch of 6” squares and then made half square triangles out of them. I am now playing with layouts. The blocks shown are only about half of what I have. What layout do you like? A quilt for mom

I hope all of you had a really nice Mother's Day. It was a nice day for me, we enjoyed it. Mark took for a drive after we went to church. We wanted to go and see Trillium Lake, it is up by Mt. Hood. When we reached the turnoff, there was a sign posted that the road was closed and we'd have to hike in, and we weren't really dressed for it, so we decided to come back in a few weeks :) We ended up stopping at a river and fishing for awhile and taking in the scenery. It was a beautiful day up there.

So, I was talking to my mom a few weeks ago. She has been sick from diabetes, and her kidneys are failing. It has been so difficult for her. It is hard to stand off to the side and watch it happen, knowing you can't help at all. She started dialysis recently and has told me she gets really cold during the process (they have a machine that removes all of the blood from your body, filters it and puts it back into your body) It's a 3-4 hours process and she sits there and freezes :( My poor mom! I told her I'd send her a quilt so she could use it during her dialysis. It worked out perfect that I had this Spring Star quilt top finished and I had bought flannel backing for it. So, I used a hi-loft polyester batting, and now it is really warm and snuggly. I quilted lines going in one direction, otherwise the quilting would pucker badly. I think she'll like it, it's something pretty to look at, and it's warm.

April, so long farewell!

It’s May, my how April flew by! We had such a fun time too. The kids are a year older, and so am I! Last Tuesday was my birthday I am the big 30 now. Awesome right? Mark was good to me, I had a wonderful day, and I feel very blessed to have my family. Did you know there is only a month and a half of school left?? Hmmm… I am not counting down at all ;)

So, May... I have a few plans, here is what I've been working on so far.

On Sunday I finished piecing my Summer Porch quilt top, isn't it pretty? I need to get it basted and quilted now.

Then the May Schnibbles quilt is a "choose your own" I have this pattern Nash, along with Cotton Blossoms fabric all picked out. I have this kitted up for awhile now, I am glad to be using it up!

Here is the pink and green baby quilt I put together. Really simple and clean. Love it!
