Canned Nuts

Well, I finally am able to go to a cross stitch group night at the local needleshop Acorns and Threads here in Portland. It's called Canned Nuts, and it's January 13th from 6-midnight. I can't wait!!! :D :D I even roped my neighbor into going with me ^_^

I realized the photo I posted of the mermaids yesterday was outdated, this is the most recent update as of last night :) Not a whole lot of changes, but the hair is pretty much done. The beading will be a bear on these girls, but it’ll be worth it.

Quilt Projects :)

My mom’s quilt has 80 blocks, I have about 60 of them done. I think this will be a beautiful quilt. I do want to get it done so I can move on. These blue blocks get a little boring ;) Here are a few layed out so you can get the idea.

These are the blocks we’ve made so far at the quilting class. It’s for beginners, but she has given us other projects to do for people who already know how to sew.

Quilting class

I went to a quilting class / block of the month class last night at the church I go to. It was so much fun! I will be taking pictures of the blocks tonight and will post them tomorrow. It is the very basic blocks, but it's fun to talk to others about it :)

Here is a baby quilt I finished last month for a friend who had a little girl. I love it, she wanted something "really girly" I think this fits the bill!

I am in the process of making a huge quilt for my mom, I think you'd call it a sunshine and shadow. There are 80 blocks to it. I have them almost complete, then I can sew them together and finish the top. I post photos of that as well tomorrow!

My Current Work in Process projects

So, my current cross stitch pieces have been chugging along. I try to stitch in the evenings when my kids have gone to bed, or at least pretend to go to bed :) I have been stitching for about 6 years now, and have only been serious about it this past year. I found a great shop Acorns and Threads here in the Portland area and they got me really hooked on it again.

I started the Mermaids of the Deep Blue by Mirabilia in February. I am stitching this for my friend in Utah, and I just think it is gorgeous. I have been kind of doing a rotation, so that is why they aren’t done yet. This was a project of many firsts, first time using linen, and first time using metallic thread. I love it though. I think it’ll be hard to give them up, but it’ll be worth it to see my friend freak out and fall in love with them even more.

This project has been in my life for about 4 years now. It’s HUGE and was one of the first ones I really started and wanted to finish. I work on it sporadically. It’s beautiful, and I am getting closer to seeing it finished. It is The Four Seasons by Marjolein Bastin. I can’t wait to hang it on my wall.

This project is The Snow Catchers by Fanci That. It’s so cute! I’ll probably have this done in the next few weeks, I’ll make it into a wall hanging for my house during Christmas time.

This is new to me :)

Well, I have wandered around a bit on this site and found many many journals relating to cross stitching, and I LOVE cross stitching and blogging, so maybe I can fit right in here. I have been on LiveJournal for a year now, and have made many friends who love to cross stitch, and I thought I'd expand even further by using this as a journal for my two hobbies, quilting and cross stitching. I will update with WIP photos and such. I am excited!
