How do you store your floss?

So, jumping off a question that Carolyn asked, how do you store your threads? I want to go further with how do you store/organize your overdyed flosses? I have my DMC floss wound on bobbins and organized by number in the thread boxes a lot of people have. I keep my beads in a tin, my kreinik in a tin, etc. But my overdyed flosses are growing rapidly in number, and I have no clue on how to store them so I can actually find them :) I have been starting to put them in the little snack Ziploc bags, but then what? Where to store those? I think by brand, and maybe by name would be a good way to go… just have to find a good way so I don’t have to redo it later :P

Let me know what you do, I am curious? I will try and post pictures at some point this weekend :) Because we all like pictures.

In other news, I have started The Cape! That would be the lighthouse one. I love it so far. It’s all in Weeks Dye Works floss. Very pretty colors. I am all excited to be working on a new project. We are going to attempt to go to the pumpkin patch tomorrow, depending on how horrid our weather will be, or not be :) It has been raining like mad the past few days. I hope you all have a great weekend, thanks for stopping by!

I also store my overdyed floss by name and by brand. I have rubbermaid type container the size of shoe boxes approximately and label each one of these with the designer name (weeks dye works, etc.) and all of the colors are in their own individual miniature baggies with a label of their color on the baggie and I keep these in alphabetical order. Hope this helps.

I store my DMC on Stitchbows which I don't care for too much, but my mom bought me a full set of them for Christmas last year.

I store my over-dyeds in the floss-away bags that have holes in the corners. I store the bags on metal rings. I am looking forward to hearing what other people say about this. I don't really like either of my methods! I don't mind the bags, but I need a different way of keeping the bags organized.

Good luck with the pumpkin patch! Take lots of pictures.

I store my DMC on plastic bobbins in a thread cabinet. My overdyes...I put in those little sandwich type baggies with a hole in them you find at Hobby Lobby/Michaels and put them on rings by brand name. Then I put the rings in large plastic bags by brand name...so in other words when I need Crescent Colours I go to my CC bag and pull out my rings the name of the floss is alphabetized (I just cut the floss card with the name and tape it to the baggies).

My DMC threads are on bobbins and organized numerically.. nice and easy to access. My over-dyeds.. well, that's another story. I'm currently trying to make them a bit more manageable myself. Right now, they're in floss away bags and on metal rings and I'm in the process of putting them in alphabetical order. Then I put them in boxes... I find this very cumbersome though and would love to know of another way to store them.

I too am using Floss-away bags and metal rings for my floss. I actually switched from using bobbin boxes to the baggies. It is easier for me to see how many skeins of a color I have, when they're all confined in one spot. heh.

I find it an imperfect system though. Ideally I'd love a cabinet full of itty bitty drawers, with lots of tiny dividers, made out of wood. And then using the baggies/rings for keeping floss for a project all together. But I haven't found one that I both a. liked and b. could afford.

maybe some day. :)

I store my overdyes on rings. WDW & GAST already have a hole punched in their labels so I just slip them onto the ring in alpha order. They then go into their own plastic box which is labelled with my Brother P-Touch. :)

Ah, we all have the same dilemma. I am accumulating other flosses too and at the moment they are all mixed in one freezer bag. Will watch your comments with interest to see if anyone has the bestest solution!!

Right now my current WIP is on couch and the yarn I use is next to it. Just one color. When I change the area in my project, I change the color.
