The Cape WIP

I picked up The Cape again. I have been wanting to work on something with overdyed threads and this is perfect :D It is all Weeks Dye Works floss, and they are so pretty. I finished the border, and the ocean, now I’m working on the sand. This shouldn’t take me too long, it has stitched up pretty quickly.

There is a big white lighthouse in the center of the design… it’s boring. So, do you think I should add some sort of stripes to it or something? I am thinking black stripes… or brown. I am not sure, what are your thoughts oh wise ones? :D

I am thinking that most stripes on lighthouses are black. How about looking in some books about lighthouses? We have a lot at our house as my husband would like to be a lighthouse keeper (in another life!) LOL

I would leave it white as stripes would compete with the stripes in the border - but that's just my personal opinion.

BTW, in the UK, lighthouses are always all white :o)

Whatever you decide I'm sure it will be PERFECT! Have a great New Year!

Black would probably look the best if you decide to go that route :). I have to say that I love light houses. I can't wait to see your finished piece and what you decide to do.

Add me for black too...I'm not sure where it is, but I have a vision of a black and white striped lighthouse in my mind after reading this...and it looks right. :-)

Happy New Year to you and your family:)

Since lighthouses each have their own design - maybe you could do it like a lighthouse you have visited sometime. Is there one near your home? My favorite is the Cape Hatteras [sp?] Lighthouse in NC.

Hmm - lighthouse stripes - having toured at least 50 they come in all stripes and colors. My personal favorite is the black and white stripes of the Cape Hatteras lighthouse.
It has been a real pleasurge getting to know you these past few months. I look forward to more next year.

To you and your family a wish for the happiest of New Years and a special Happy New Year for Curran. LOL

It looks to me like the chart may be based on the Cape May Lighthouse in NJ - Cape May is famous for their Victorian homes, and the lighthouse is white with a red top. Personally, I think it looks lovely just as it is - I wouldnt add any stripes

I agree with what sweet pea said. Since it's modeled after a specific lighthouse, I would leave it. Just my $0.02. :)
